The successful organization and management of the three-day international programme was efficiently handled by Sagar Katwal and Aarati Poudel Katwal, whose composed personalities, wisdom, and remarkable management skills ensured the smooth execution of every activity. One of the major highlights of the international ceremony was the recognition and appreciation of Senior Oncologist Surgeon Dr. Satish K. Shukla for his outstanding contributions to surgery, oncology, medical education, scientific literature, and humanitarian service.

Dr. Shukla holds prestigious qualifications including M.S., F.A.I.S., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.S., FRCS, and FAMS. A landmark achievement acknowledged during the ceremony was Dr. Shukla’s internationally appreciated article titled: “Surgeon — A Scalpel Holder, Trust and Passion, An Inseparable Friend”, published online on 2nd May 2025 in the Indian Journal of Surgical Oncology. The article has been described as one of the first conceptual analyses in nearly 3,000 years of surgical history focusing on the inseparable relationship between a surgeon and the scalpel. Dr. Shukla emphasized the concept through the analogy: “No Bat — No Batsman” and similarly “No Scalpel — No Surgeon.”

Six months ago, the SAARC Nations Surgical Association constituted a special committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdul Mazeed Choudhary to identify the “Icons of Surgery” in SAARC nations based on eight detailed criteria evaluating professional excellence, aptitude, contributions, and achievements.

The selection process, supported by AI and Google-assisted validation, recognized several eminent Indian surgeons, including:

2. Dr. Jemini Sen

3. Prof. Dr. Tehemton Udwadia

4. Prof. (Dr.) Satish Shukla

5. Prof. Devendra Patel
