At the 14th edition of Rajnigandha Presents Jagran Film Festival, the world’s largest traveling film festival, Bobby Deol took audiences on an intimate journey through his family, his relationship with cinema, and the legacy of his father, legendary actor Dharmendra. During the session “Courage to Begin Again: Inside one of Indian Cinema’s Most Remarkable Reinventions,” Bobby spoke candidly about his career, his family’s influence and the moments that have made his journey special.
Reflecting on a lifetime intertwined with cinema, he recalled how his own career began with him playing his father’s childhood on screen and eventually came full circle when he lent his voice to his father in his final film. “You know the most amazing thing is that I’m so lucky that I started my career when I was 5-6 years old playing my dad’s young self. And then my father’s last film, Ikkis in some scenes he was shown to be young, so I dubbed for his voice. So for me, it’s very special.”
Getting emotional while speaking about his father, Bobby also spoke about how meaningful it was for his father to witness both his sons find success, particularly after a difficult phase in their careers. Recalling one of the biggest compliments he received from his father , Bobby said, “I’m so glad that papa saw me and my brother succeeding in our lives. We were going through a very dull period in our careers. But we both succeeded in the same year. And papa saw that… That now you’ve recognized yourself as an actor.”
