Sustainability is increasingly becoming a part of everyday conversations, but turning awareness into action remains a challenge. Through its sustainability vertical, Nav Nisarga by NAVIGATE aims to bridge that gap by highlighting people and organisations working towards practical environmental solutions.

The latest Nav Nisarga interview features Zerodor and its waterless urine technology. Sachin Joshi, co-founder of Zerodor, shares how a simple sanitation solution can also help conserve water.

Founded around a decade ago by Sachin Joshi and Uttam Banerjee, Zerodor developed patented waterless urine technology that reduces water use while maintaining hygiene and eliminating odour. The company gained wider attention after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 3 and receiving support from Rainmatter, an initiative by Zerodha focused on environmentally conscious businesses.

Its technology has since been installed across public and commercial spaces in India, including the Wagah border, select Zudio, PVR and McDonald’s outlets, and locations associated with Indian Railways.

For Ketaki Sane, founder of NAVIGATE, the conversation fits naturally into the purpose of Nav Nisarga. Her interest in environmental issues grew while researching a podcast on rainwater harvesting, leading her to think more deeply about how people consume natural resources without always considering conservation. Nav Nisarga emerged from that thought as a platform for environmental voices and solutions.

The platform has previously featured Ramdas Kokare, Deputy Commissioner at KDMC, on wet waste management. Ketaki has also initiated the #oka, or Ola Kachara, campaign to encourage greater community participation in waste management.

The conversation with Zerodor also connects to NAVIGATE’s next focus on water conservation. Through its consultancy division, the “Piss with Purpose” campaign aims to encourage people to see water conservation as part of everyday behaviour rather than a distant environmental concern.

Zerodor shows how simple innovation can address resource consumption without complicating everyday life. For Nav Nisarga, the larger goal is to bring such ideas and the people behind them into the spotlight.
