The Founder & CEO of Elysium Groups has built six companies, a foundation and an AI incubation centre from Madurai, and now targets a ₹1,000 crore enterprise employing 5,000 people.

Madurai, Tamil Nadu, 5 October, 2026: Sundaresh Kamaraj, Founder and CEO of Elysium Groups, started his first company in 1999 with ₹20,000 and no investors. More than 25 years later, the Madurai-based group is valued at about ₹100 crore and spans 15+ business divisions across technology education, AI solutions, research support and skill development.

The group reports more than 500 professionals and over 3 lakh customers in 160+ countries. For Sundaresh Kamaraj, the numbers prove a point he has argued since leaving a corporate career: world-class technology companies can be built from a tier-2 Indian city.

“World-class is not a location. It is a standard,” he says.

From a village near Madurai to IBM

Sundaresh Kamaraj was born on 10 July 1977 in Madurai to a family from a small agricultural village. His father repaired radios and televisions, and that repair bench was his first exposure to electronics.

At 13, while in 8th standard at a government high school, he delivered milk and newspapers before and after class to support the household. He later ran a small shop and a milk distributorship in front of his home, which he kept going through school and college.

He completed a Diploma and then a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering through part-time study, working as a computer networking tutor to pay his fees. He was the first engineer in his family. He later added an MS in Information Technology, also part-time.

His corporate career as a computer network engineer included stints at Pioneer Groups and IBM Corporation in network architecture and security.

The ₹20,000 decision that started Elysium Groups

In 1999, Sundaresh Kamaraj resigned, returned to Madurai and founded Elysium Technologies as a solopreneur. He handled sales, engineering, training and accounts himself.

“I did not quit a job. I chose a mission,” he recalls. “The salary was comfortable, but the dream was calling louder.”

He saw a gap between talented students in Madurai and nearby villages and the technology education available in larger cities. Each new Elysium business was started to close a part of that gap.

What Elysium Groups does today

Elysium Groups now comprises six private limited companies and one foundation: Elysium Technologies, Elysium Academy, Elysian Intelligence Business Solution (EiBS), Elysian Skill Training, Elysian Communication, Atchayapathra Foods and the Elysium Foundation.

Its work falls into four areas:

  • Tech education: Elysium Academy provides IT training and certification courses, and Elysium Embedded School teaches embedded systems.
  • AI and software solutions: EiBS delivers software, ERP and digital services for businesses.
  • Research and projects: PhDiZone supports PhD scholars, and ElysiumPro trains college students through final-year projects.
  • Skill development: UpSkill365 and Elysian Skill Training run employability programmes with colleges and skilling schemes.

The group also operates an AI, Embedded and IoT Incubation Centre in Madurai, where students and early-stage founders build products.

Author, inventor and startup mentor

Beyond running the group, Sundaresh Kamaraj has published 20+ e-books and two physical books, written 500+ articles and holds 7+ patents. He has delivered more than 200 seminars and workshops at colleges and industry forums.

He has travelled to over 60 countries, including the USA, the UK, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and South Africa, to study how other markets approach technology and quality. He mentors startups and shares business frameworks on his blog, sundaresh.blog.

Vision: a ₹1,000 crore company with 5,000 people

Sundaresh Kamaraj has set a target of growing Elysium Groups into a ₹1,000 crore company with more than 5,000 people. The plan rests on three pillars: tech education, AI solutions and skill development, with a focus on rural and first-generation learners.

“I built the first ₹100 crore with courage. I will build the next ₹900 crore with people,” he says.

His stated aim is that a student from a small village in Tamil Nadu should be able to reach global opportunity without leaving home.
